Alberta: Provincial State of Emergency
Economic Aid: Several comprehensive economic aid measures include Emergency Payment Program for Albertans facing self-isolation, deferral of Alberta Treasury Board loans, lines of credit and mortgages, deferral of corporate income tax until August 31, a 6-month moratorium on student loans, a deferment of electricity and natural gas payments for the next 90 days.
$60 million in funding for social agencies and an additional $30 million that will used to support seniors, as well as the first steps in providing short and long-term financial relief to the oil and gas industry were also released.
Effective immediately, the Government of Alberta is reversing the increase to the Education Property Tax that was announced in Budget 2020. Additionally, the government will defer education property tax for businesses for six months, until October 2020. Full details here.
Albertans who are required to self-isolate or are the sole caregiver of someone in isolation and have no other source of pay or compensation can now receive a one-time emergency isolation support payment of $1,146 as part of a roughly $50 million emergency isolation fund.
