Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the federal government will soon be releasing the shared principles on re-opening the economy, agreed to by the federal, provincial, and territorial governments. The framework will serve as a guideline to determine further action to re-open the Canadian economy. In order to reopen the economy, there must:
- Be a capacity to test and trace COVID-19 in order to control any new spread;
- At workplaces, have additional measures and equipment added to keep employees safe;
- Be certainty that hospitals can cope, not just for COVID-19, but for everyone that needs care; and
- Be strong measures in place in long-term care facilities for an extended period of time.
Trudeau stated that restarting the economy will be “gradual and careful and will be guided by science.”
